Project 366--March 12-18

Go HERE to get your very own BLANK .png version of this page for personal use!

I've decided to start theming my pictures throughout the week, to make things more interesting...after 70 days, just documenting things I did is getting boring, y'know?  Maybe having a "theme" each week will inspire some creativity and better pictures.  This week I just stuck with a color theme--black!  And I stuck with the theme a little over half the time.  :)

Mar 12--subbed in a junior high math class half-day and a second grade class the other half. Too tired for any fancy pics, so just took a pretty one of my black lab mix, Obi. :)
Mar 13--helping my sister and niece move into their own apartment!  Woohoo!  And a primary presidency meeting.  Cerene is in love with the color black, so everything in her new room is black.
Mar 14--lunch with some cool gals! More moving with the fam (though not much).  And I made CTR bookmarks for Primary (more on that later!).
Mar 15--cleaning the house and traveling to Chicago with Paul, Cerene, and Caida! (her teeth are black from all the candy)
Mar 16--eating ourselves silly in Chicago! and babysitting a neighbor's kids when we got home.
Mar 17--St. Patty's Day/birthday/housewarming party!!!  Would you believe I didn't take a single picture of the actual party?  Major regret!  But I was just having too much fun.
Mar 18--MY 29TH BIRTHDAY!!! Church, choir practice, home teachers, and dinner from a neighbor.  It was a nice, relaxing day.

Project 366--March 5-11

Mar 5--Happy birthday, Cerene!  (Can't believe my baby sister is 26 years old.) baking cakes and celebrating all day long...and I brought a meal to someone, which ended up in an hour-long discussion...I love that!
Mar 6--still couldn't find subbing work (ISTEP week), so I finished organizing my house and the primary closet and shared leftover cupcakes with neighbors.
Mar 7--subbed in a high school chem class...where I found that note (made me chuckle!).  Went to activity days at night.  I LOVE being back there!
Mar 8--worked on a much-anticipated project, Caida's Sunday binder.  One week into it, at least, she loves it! Also went to the Relief Society birthday celebration at night.
Mar 9--Babysat a neighbor (briefly), finished up other projects/housework and made a DELICIOUS dinner of grilled chili lime mango chicken.  Yeah, it was awesome.
Mar 10--random bits and pieces of things...and babysat Caida!
Mar 11--church, meetings, choir...the usual Sunday stuff.  :)  But how about this GORGEOUS weather?  Spring is truly upon us, and I couldn't be more ready for it!  :)

Knotted Hair

One of my favorite Pinterest finds is a new, fast, cute way to do my hair.  You just knot it!  Yes, that's right--knot it.  Like, split it into two sections and tie it like you're tying your shoelaces together (minus the loops), then tie it off with a hairband.  I love it because it is SO fast, and it looks a lot more complicated than it is (people can't quite figure it out and lately have asked me how I do that).  It makes even my long, straight, dull, frizzy hair look kinda pretty.
For a more professional look, I blowdry my hair and then pull it to the side and just knot it twice, leaving my ponytail longish. (I will take a picture when I do this next time so you can see what I mean.)

For a more fun/funky look, I do pigtail braids while my hair is still wet...except instead of braiding, I just knot it all the way down until I can't do it anymore.

Pair it with a cute outfit--all from GoodWill--and you're good to go!

The best part about this is that it leaves your hair stylishly wavy the next day, so you don't have to do a thing--you kill two birds with one stone!  :)

Caida's Church Binder!

I have been wanting to make something to entertain Caida at Church since FOREVER, and with subbing being slow this week I finally got my chance!  It's not really anything special, but I am in LOVE with it, anyway...and want to make one for ME now, too!

Here's a quick tour:

The binder cover, all pink, of course.  :)  The swoopy font is called "Before the Rain" and the open font below it is called "{skinny} jeans"...I just colored it in with a sharpie.

Inside is, of course, all pink, too!  A pink pencil pouch filled with a few pencils, twistable crayons and colored pencils (she's one of the cool kids now :), and dry erase markers.  Behind it, a pink folder filled with...

Coloring pages!  Random abstract designs are on the left (more for when I color with her), and things from the Friend are on the right.  P.S. Almost EVERYTHING I have is from the Friend online, or old copies of the Friend or Ensign we'd saved.  I love it!  I wish Caida were a *little* older, or a slightly better reader...but I still found plenty of age-appropriate games she could do independently, so I'm happy.

Then, behind it, there are these tabbed page dividers.  I found activities and stories I thought she could enjoy on her own and laminated them...I'm a crazy person and color-coordinated everything.  You certainly don't have to!  Laminating is awesome, though, because she can do those activities again and again with those dry erase markers I got her.

The purple section is for mazes...all with a church-related theme, of course.

The blue section is for word searches.

The green section is for hidden pictures.  Since she's not a super-strong reader, I made two copies of the hidden pictures and cut out everything she was supposed to find from one, placing them around the picture with a label so she can learn the words and see what she's got to find.  I am super happy with how these came out...and *I* got to play a little as I found everything and put it together, too!

The yellow section is for miscellaneous activities...like matching games, drawing, connect-the-dots, and so on.

And the pink section is for stories and pictures.
I loved these picture stories when I was a wee tot!

I wanted Caida to have her own pictures of things that are important to our faith, as she is preparing to be baptized this year!  It's also great to have stuff like that around to keep sacrament more reverent.  She loves my gospel art book, but she's always asking me "What's this? What's that?"  Not so reverent.  So I found pictures of all the most important stuff (that I didn't think she knew much about) from old issues of church magazines, stuck on a traceable title for each page (it was in a font literally called "trace"...which will be great for those dry-erase markers!), and wrote a sentence or two about the topic that she could (mostly) read all by herself.

Here are the "Plan of Salvation" and "Joseph Smith" pages.

Here are the "scriptures" and "baptism" pages.

You get the idea.  :)  Like I said, it's nothing fancy, but I think it'll help her stay entertained in a more reverent way during sacrament meeting as she learns more about the gospel of Jesus Christ...and if I just *have* to help her, it'll be fun for me, too!  And laminating everything means I don't have to keep running out to make copies of everything...except the coloring pages.  If you want, you could laminate those, too, and give the kids dry erase crayons...but Caida doesn't like the texture of coloring that way.  I can't wait to add to this binder as the she grows up.  And if we get to start doing FHE with her, I now have some great resources to get started!

Happy crafting!

Thankful Thursday

1.  I'm thankful that Paul is HOME!  It was only a few days, I know...but both me and the puppies missed him dearly!  He's not allowed to go to Boston, or anywhere else for that matter, without me again!

2.  I'm thankful for our relative good health.  There are bugs and sicknesses going around everywhere, and we're for the most part healthy and able to go out into the world and do what needs to be done.

3.  I'm thankful for chocolate milk.  You may not know this, but I LOVE me some Dean's chocolate milk (or the Aldi brand that tastes just like it).  Some days I drink a glass or two instead of eating meals (especially breakfast).  It's often the only hydration I get (gotta work on that!).  And I was out of it for the last two days.  Now I have more.  I am thankful!

4.  I'm thankful for the kind words of friends and strangers, both here and through email, that catch me off guard and make me smile on particularly tough or even just boring days.  You are great people!

5.  I'm thankful that I got to fill in for Activity Days yesterday.  The leader inspired me with exactly what I needed to hear right now to get motivated and jumpstart my fitness, AND it was LOTS of fun to see the girls again!

What are YOU thankful for this week?

Happy birthday, Cerene!

My BABY sister turned 26 yesterday...that can't be right! :) With our mom and my husband out of town for business, it was just us three sisters and my niece. Here are some pics of the evening...I'll add more details when Paul gets home and I have the computer again! :)

Body pillows :)

My puppies are particular about their sleeping arrangements. They need pillows, blankets, and a warm body more often than not. What to do if you can't find a pillow? Use your buddy!

Maybe they're onto something?...

Hair...failed

I tried something new with my hair today. Pretty much failed (I need professional help! And a new curling iron...and thicker hair)...but at least it looks cute up!

P.s. that white shirt is one of my GoodWill finds from Saturday!

Project 366--February 26-March 4

Normally this would be just a plain old week, but the leap year throws things off a little.  :)  Oh well!  If you're wanting this for 2012 (or any other leap year), download your free blank .png version HERE.  BUT, if you want this for any other year that isn't a leap year, download it HERE.  Either way is for the "week"(ish) of Feb 26-Mar 4.

Feb 26--Church (Paul got a new calling...they just keep comin'!) and family dinner at Dad's.  Caida got a box of clothes from someone at church, so we spent a good chunk of the afternoon making thank-you cards for the family that did it.
Feb 27--Housework (it's becoming a Monday tradition!) and Dog 'n' Suds season opening!  79 cent coney dogs!
Feb 28--Subbed at a middle school in town...hated it!  Primary meetings and gatherings all night long.
Feb 29--Recovered.  Did...not much of anything, although I introduced Paul to "Joe Versus the Volcano" as the start of our Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan marathon this week.  :)
Mar 1--Felt guilty about yesterday, so I did more housework...even the kind I hate (laundry, e.g.).  Also, first of the month means digiscrap blog train freebies!  (It's how I get my kits to scrap with now.)
Mar 2--Subbed at Hershey Elementary, chauffeurred family around, went out with Paul to a ward dance/game night, and finished "Hunger Games" (for the 3rd time).
Mar 3--Good Will date!  Worked on Primary stuff, went grocery shopping, and mostly just relaxed...a nice, lazy Saturday.
Mar 4--Church, of course...organized the primary closet, took someone a meal, picked up a whole bagful of free kids' books, and enjoyed the Sabbath evening with my husband.

GoodWill Finds!

I look forward to the first Saturday of the month like it is Christmas morning and I'm five years old. My husband is just as bad. It's on this day that GoodWill, our localest thrift store, has a 50% off sale each month, and Paul and I make a morning date out of it every time--shopping for professional (or not) clothes, then going out to breakfast.  I hate shopping, but I love a bargain.  I hate clothes and hate my body right now, but I love that I can find a zillion things to cover myself--many of which are new, with tags and all--for almost nothing.  Here's my own personal score from this morning:

THREE DRESSES, one of which is new and full and beautiful (that blue piece underneath everything on the bottom).
One pencil skirt--charcoal gray--IN MY SIZE.
Two white dress shirts, a pink-and-brown striped shirt, a casual white/beige patterned tunic top, and a gray sweater.

It would be a steal on ANY day with GoodWill prices, but on the first Saturday of the month?

$20.15

I'm a happy girl.

Paul also managed to find two tennis rackets and a case for them (our apartment complex has tennis courts, and we've been waiting for nice weather and extra money to gather the goods to go play...) for $4.05 total.

And two hardover books for $1.13/piece.

And 4 ties for 90 cents each.

Not to mention pants.

Life is pretty good for us BOTH today!  :)
